In exactly one week, I will be embarking on one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I am going to Vermont to a place called Green Mountain at Fox Run. This is a retreat for women like myself, who are struggling with weight issues. The program is a combination of nutritional classes, behavioral classes, and movement experiences. I have been wanting to go for so long. Over a year ago, I mailed off a letter for their scholarship program and waited to hear something. And waited. And waited. And finally decided that I must not have received the scholarship. Then one day, out of blue, I got a letter saying I had received a partial scholarship that had to be used by March 31, 2013. The belief of giving partial scholarships is that the recipients are willing to make an investment in themselves, which attaches a real value to the experience. Women willing to invest in themselves on every level (emotional, time away from home, as well as some financial commitment) will get more out of the program. So over the past few months, I have gathered together the money, which was still substantial for my budget, and looked forward to my big adventure.
Two whole weeks away from work, and life, and everything that causes me stress and causes me to overeat, and just focus on myself. I will learn new ways to deal with stress other than eating. I will learn to enjoy exercise and learn how to incorporate exercise in my everyday life. Now, just one week away, I am getting so excited and nervous. I have a week full of work to get through. I have to pack, and clean my apartment, and make sure my cat is taken care of. I have a million things to stress about because I am so good at stressing about things. But at this time, in one week, I will be sitting in Vermont, getting ready to embark on a new journey. It will be cold. There will be snow. Likely a lot of it. But nothing will stop me from enjoying this exciting experience. I can't wait.
So, I've decided to keep a blog about my time at Green Mountain at Fox Run. I will try to post as regularly as possible during my time at Green Mountain. I hope my friends enjoy reading my blog and sharing this experience with me. Hopefully I can motivate my friends who need motivation.
